Assistive Technology In Special Education: Identifying Student Needs, Responding To Parent Requests, And Other Compliance Issues For Educators

This presentation is designed to provide educators with an in-depth review of current legal requirements under the IDEA, Section 504 and the ADA, and the uniquely challenging legal issues relative to the use of assistive technology by children with disabilities. The statutory and regulatory framework for AT consideration, evaluation, and service delivery, as well as relevant administrative and judicial rulings on AT devices and services for IDEA- and Section 504-eligible students, will be highlighted. Practical suggestions for addressing a wide range of AT-related issues and improving procedures in schools will be provided.
